The Process

Collins Seafoods are industry leaders in providing the highest quality Frozen at Sea fish. But what is Frozen at Sea? Frozen at Sea products, including cod and haddock, are caught, processed and frozen within a six-hour window of the fish leaving the sea. This ensures that the taste, texture and quality is never compromised and seals in the 'taste of the sea'.

Here at Collins we actively promote the use of sustainable fishing methods and pride ourselves in being able to offer full traceability on our products.

So, what does the process look like from catch to delivery?

  • Step 1

    The crew boards the vessel and heads out on the trawlers in search of the perfect catch. On the way to the fishing zones the crew work tirelessly to prepare the nets to ensure they are correctly set up to let out the smaller, immature fish to help sustain the areas population.

  • Step 2

    The nets are then dropped into carefully monitored fishing zones ready to haul in the finest catch.

  • Step 3

    The nets are then hauled safely back onto the trawler filled with the days catch.

  • Step 4

    Once on board, the live trawled fish are transferred into secure holding tanks. Within one hour the fish has been hauled, gutted, bled and put in ice to seal in the freshness

  • Step 5

    Once carefully filleted, all produce is trimmed and graded. It is then packed into slabs, boxed, palletised and sent to the temperature controlled storage area onboard the vessel.

  • Step 6

    When the vessel lands the fish is then transferred to coldstores where it is held until the fish is ready to send to the UK.
