Collins Seafoods: Sustainability on site
There’s nothing more important to all of us than to ensure that our planet has a bright future. That’s why at Collins, we are working hard to play our part and make our business as eco-friendly as possible.
And we don’t just mean out at sea.
Be it the office lightbulbs or the vehicles our eco-conscious staff drive, our carbon footprint is firmly at the front and centre of every business decision we make.
This year alone, we’ve made a ton of positive changes at both our Leeds and North East depots which benefit both the business and Mother Earth.
Over the summer, solar panels were installed at both sites and the environmental benefits are proving to be enormous. Since July alone, the emissions these panels have helped save is the equivalent of planting 300 trees – a stat we’re extremely proud of.
In June, electric charging points were also installed at our Leeds and Aycliffe sites, proving a great incentive for staff to go green – saving both the planet and their money.
And before then, we had the bright idea of switching to LED lights at both sites – since then we’ve consumed less energy on our march towards energy independence.
And for us, that’s a crucial journey given that sustainability is at the heart of our industry.
Thankfully, we are proud to be industry leaders when it comes to suitability and future-proofing our planet’s oceans.
We work closely with suppliers to guarantee we only sell fish caught using sustainable fishing methods.
But even when our product is packed and ready to leave our depot, our commitment towards sustainability isn’t finished.
That’s why we have taken a huge step towards a greener future by also partnering with Biffa, the leading waste management specialist.
We’ve now implemented their superb, pioneering online waste management portal which allows us, among other things, to:
- Monitor how much waste we produce – and what happens to it.
- Track and optimise our recycling which has already lowered our carbon footprint.
- Schedule waste collections more effectively to reduce disruptions and ensure a smoother workflow.
All in all, we have made a lot of little changes this summer – but already they are making a big difference.
And our unwavering commitment to sustainability is good news to both the business and the planet that we all love.
