This year, Healthy Eating Week, which was created by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF), is taking place from June 13th – 17th. It has been running for 10 years, and it is an annual event that encourages people to make positive changes to their lifestyles. In 2022, it may be a significant week for some people – according to Ipsos, 62% of Americans believe their health is more important than before the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the BNF website, you can find health facts and recommendations on how to get the nutrition you need. The team have written a blog on the importance of eating seafood – specifically sustainable seafood. According to the blog, advice to eat fish often features in healthy eating guidelines worldwide, including the UK’s Eatwell Guide.

Fish provides important nutrients such as vitamin D, Zinc and long-chain omega-3. It also provides a source of protein that is naturally low in saturated fats – swapping out red meat for fish can reduce the risk of developing long-term health problems such as certain cancers and cardiovascular disease.

However, recent studies show that more and more people want full traceability on the foods they are eating.

Cod and haddock are high in demand but a lot of destruction has been caused due to poor fishing, which endangers species, causes long-term problems for the environment, and has a negative impact on the food chain. At Collins Seafoods, we work closely with the Marine Stewardship Council to ensure our products are fully sustainable.

Healthy Eating Week is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness about the importance of traceable fish to benefit not only your own health, but also the environment! Eating MSC-certified products ensures consistent supplies of fish for the future as the oceans will continue to be populated – meaning we can all continue to enjoy the health benefits of fish for years to come.
