Our charity support

At Collins Seafoods, we believe charity begins at home. That’s why our entire team is committed to supporting two charities that are incredibly close to all our hearts.

Both Feeding Families, in Blaydon, and the Leeds South and East Foodbank are doing extraordinary work to feed communities during these challenging times.

In both cases, the charities provide emergency food supplies to vulnerable families, and for many, they are a lifeline.

In the North East alone, Feeding Families provided almost 350,000 emergency meals last year.

However, the cost-of-living crisis has only exacerbated the problems many were already facing with demand for their services going through the roof.

In South and East Leeds there has been a 30 per cent increase in the need for food parcels during the last 12 months,

Heartbreakingly, 40 per cent of those supported by the charity are children.

That’s why at Collins Seafoods, we believe it is crucial that we do whatever we can to help those most in need – especially as we live and work in these communities.

Our two depots are located in Leeds and County Durham, so sadly, we see first hand the struggles these communities face on a daily basis.

In a bid to show our support over the last year, our big-hearted teams have regularly staged collections to help gather supplies for these two charities, and we’ve also mucked in by volunteering.

We’ll be doing that again over the festive period, which for too many people will sadly be anything other than merry this year.

Last Christmas, Feeding Families supported 11,316 households in the North East. With demand for the charity’s services doubling this year, it seems that figure is sadly going to rise pretty dramatically this Christmas.

That’s why it is vital we all help – and that includes you.

Whilst food banks predated the cost-of-living crisis, it has shone a light on just how precarious the situation now is for millions in the UK.

People from all walks of life and professions are now finding they are also becoming increasingly dependent on food banks to feed themselves and their families.

And with demand growing, these charities need all the help they can get. From supplies and donations to people power, everything you can spare this Christmas will be a huge help.

And like a dog, our support isn’t just for Christmas. These are causes we’ve supported for well over a year and will continue to do so throughout 2024.

But no matter what you spare, in this season of goodwill, do what you can to help those who need it the most.

It could make all the difference in their world.
