Hartlepool swimming club is a charitable organisation which was established in 1920, meaning it has been serving the town for over 100 years! Collins Seafoods’ relationship with the club started in 2016 when Richard Collins, the founder of our company, signed his children up to the club and they adored their time there. Richard decided to support the club by sponsoring them every month and help the club members achieve their goals. The squad have kit with the Collins logo on to represent the partnership between the two organisations, and Richard is still in regular contact with some of the club’s volunteers, despite stepping down as managing director in March 2022.

The club has two main focus points: to develop swimmers so they can perform to the best of their ability and to prepare individuals to increase their skills for competitions. They have programmes built around these aims which cover a range of ages. For example, their Learn to Swim Academy programme supports children from as young as five years old, and when they have progressed to higher skill levels as they get older, they can move on to preparing for competitions. The Learn to Swim Academy has recently been able to expand (it currently has 150 members) due to a partnership agreement with High Tunstall School which grants them access to their pool and facilities.

The growth of the club has aided the members in achieving some fantastic goals. Recently, the club has had several swimmers competing in local and national competitions, with member Toby Parker becoming particularly successful; in the 2022 North East Region Long Course Summer competition, Toby has been:

  • Awarded first place in his age group for the Butterfly 200 meters and the Freestyle 50 meters.
  • Awarded second place in the Butterfly 100 meters.
  • Awarded third place award in the Freestyle 100 meters.

Toby has also qualified for the British Summer Championships and the English Summer Nationals. We will be rooting for him and wishing him the best of luck for his future endeavors.

Here at Collins Seafoods we are proud of how far the club has come over the years and we will continue to support them in their successes! Swimming is an important life skill, especially in a coastal town such as Hartlepool, and we are pleased that many individuals are benefiting physically and mentally from the popular sport.

Kevin Shears, Treasurer of the club said, “We are eternally grateful for Collins’ support – it makes a massive difference, and we can’t thank them enough. After the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been a life saver, because it has helped people take part in their favourite hobby once again.”
